America’s educators are placing increased emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  The so-called STEM subjects.  And that’s a good thing … because our scientists, engineers, and mathematicians will help keep us both technologically advanced and economically prosperous.

However, there is danger in this too.  If we emphasize STEM, and in the process deemphasize the Arts, we shortchange our students and jeopardize our position as a global superpower.  Because it’s not just STEM that sets us apart and keeps us ahead.  It’s our creativity, our ingenuity, and our ability to solve complex problems with imagination and out-of-the box thinking.
